Ways You Can Help Colorado HRS

There are many ways you can help the bunnies. The list of possibilities is varied and includes: locating apple branches, renewing your membership, recycling toner cartridges and cell phones, shopping online, donating your car, donating bath towels, donating garage sale items, matching donations, referring home buyers/sellers, and/or buying or selling a home yourself.

1) Seek Out and Find APPLE BRANCHES

We desperately need apple branches to give to the foster bunnies and to bundle for sale in the gift shop. As many of you know, our members rely on us to have apple branches available for purchase. Our supply has been depleted and in the very near future, we will no longer have bundles available for sale. If you have an apple tree, or know someone who does, please contact Debby Schmidt at 970-690-0292 or debbysch@quixnet.net.

2) Renew Your National Membership

When it's time to renew your membership with the National HRS, please send your check for $18.00 to us at the Colorado House Rabbit Society. When you renew in this manner, the Colorado HRS can keep $3.00 of the membership fee. We will forward the remaining $15.00 to National. Either way, the membership charge to you is $18.00. Make your check payable to Colorado HRS and mail it to P.O. Box 238, Broomfield, CO 80038-0238.

3) Recycle Toner Cartridges and Cell Phones

Please donate your used printer cartridges, drum cartridges and old cell phones to Colorado HRS. These can be sold for recycling. You may leave them with any of the volunteers at the supply pick-up points or bring them to the shelter in Broomfield. There's a box in the supply pick-up room labeled, “Recycle Cartridges Here.” This is another great way for you to help the bunnies at no cost to you. Spread the word to your employer, friends and family. If your company would like a specially marked box to collect their cartridges, please contact Kay at kay@coloradohrs.com. Last month we raised $63 through this program.

4) Shop Online @ IGIVE.com

Sign up at www.igive.com and shop online with the merchants who give a rebate to the Colorado HRS. Harry and David, Safeway, Home Depot, Travelocity and Puritan Pride Vitamins are just a few of the many e-stores where you can shop online.

This is an easy way for you to help the bunnies, and it doesn’t cost you ANYTHING. The Colorado House Rabbit Society even receives $5.00 for each person who simply enrolls. Please sign up now! (Note: So far, Colorado HRS has earned $550.00 from this online giving program.)

5) Donate Your Car

We are sometimes asked if we will take used vehicles as a donation. The answer is “Yes!” You may contact Cars Helping Charities, Inc. at 303-423-CARS (2277) to make arrangements for the donation of your vehicle. Donated vehicles are sold at auction, and the Colorado House Rabbit Society receives 50% of the sales price!

7) Help Build Runs for the Foster Bunnies with Your Referrals

Colorado HRS member, Kerry Endsley is offering a great donation opportunity to help us build some much needed runs for the foster bunnies. For each closed, referred transaction, Kerry will purchase an aluminum run for the Colorado HRS. These pens cost about $1,100 each.

If you know someone who is buying or selling a home, refer them to Kerry. He can be reached at 303-526-7500 (office), 303-215-5363 (direct), 303-570-0267 (cell phone), or 303-670-0025 (fax).

8) Donate Bath Towels

We desperately need bath towels to line the foster bunny condos. If you have some bath towels to donate, please leave them in the supply alcove in Broomfield (12601 Lowell--which is North of 120th, between Federal and Sheridan) or with one of the supply pick up people.

Note: Heather Monagle, one of our junior members, placed donation boxes in her school. Consider doing the same at your place of employment or in your child’s school. Do this not only for towels but for toner cartridges and cell phones too. This is a great idea for a student’s service project.

9) Donate Items to the Colorado HRS Garage Sale

Since this summer's garage sales were such huge successes, we plan to hold several garage sales during 2005. If you have items to donate, please do the following:

  • Mark a price on all the items you plan to donate; and
  • As applicable, sort your donations by "type." In other words, group your items by "kitchen," "holiday items," garden," and so forth. This will make set-up infinitely easier for our volunteers.

All donations should be brought to our Broomfield location. (Note: Unfortunately, we cannot accept furniture, clothing, books, or anything weighing over 20 lbs. Additionally, PLEASE DO NOT BRING "JUNK" OF ANY KIND. We need good, re-usable items that are in good working order.)

Contact Valerie at 303-359-6418 or vagnew1st@msn.com. Visit her website for more information about her services.

Lisa Reiersgaard will donate $200.00 when you obtain a loan through WR Starkey Mortgage. Lisa can be reached at 303-757-0300 (office) or 303-618-1529 (cell).
