Can You Help Lori Geist?

Lori GeistLori Geist is Our Volunteer of the Quarter for Winter 2005. Lori has received this honor due to her incredible dedication to the Colorado HRS rabbits--particularly given the numerous, extremely daunting challenges in her own life.

Lori has secondary pulmonary hypertension with limited scleraderma--a fatal disease that requires her to be on oxygen and receiving medication 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Lori has several very basic needs. If you can help with any of these, she (and we) would be very grateful. So far, she has found no help from any government or private agency. Her needs include:

  • part-time employment with flexible hours, where she can sit most of the time.
  • a good, loving home for Sabrina, a 6-year-old Siamese-mix, chocolate point, spayed cat who gnaws holes in Lori’s oxygen tube, literally endangering Lori’s life.
  • inexpensive, pet-friendly housing where her family of cats and rabbits can happily live with her.
  • financial assistance to help make ends meet until she is back on her feet.

In an era of “compassionate conservatism,” and more churches than at any time in the history of our country, why are Lori’s simple needs for employment, a home for herself and her animals, and a home for her cat not being met?

To help Lori with her living expenses, we have set up a fund where people can make contributions. (Note: Unfortunately, donations to this fund are NOT tax deductible.) If you are interested in contributing to the Lori Geist fund, please make your check payable to "The Lori Geist Fund" and send it to:
