Meet Barry Oehler: Our Volunteer of the Quarter

Although Barry owns and runs a travel agency, travels frequently, engages in skiing and many other outdoor activities and sports, he spends a good deal of his time on HRS activities. Do you ever wonder who places the orders for all of the supplies we carry for your rabbits? It’s Barry. And who keeps track of what has arrived, and who puts away the supplies after they have been delivered? Barry does.

But Barry doesn’t stop there. Have you ever noticed a bunch of dirty litter boxes sitting in the big sink in the bunny room, carriers left lying in a variety of places around the bunny rooms, towels stacked high and unfolded on the table, and suddenly a day later, it’s all been cleaned and put away? Ever wonder who does that? It’s Barry. In general, he runs around and cleans up after the rest of us, and then cleans up some more, sweeping, mopping, doing whatever he sees that needs doing.

He also takes care of the gift shop, restocking the supplies every week. He cleans both bathrooms and vacuums the carpet in the shop. Frankly, if it weren’t for Barry, we would gradually sink into a dismal state of affairs, with the entire HRS building becoming cluttered and dirty. You would come into the shop to find that the supplies you want aren’t there, but are stacked somewhere on the property waiting to be put away. At the end of the year, we wouldn’t know what we had ordered throughout the year, and would be at a loss when completing our report to the IRS.

And so, Barry, we thank you for all the work you do. It benefits the rabbits and each of us individually. You are one of our super heroes! May the “Bunny Gods” bless you real good!
