Additions

Since our last newsletter, 47 bunnies have arrived at the shelter. Fortunately, 20 of them have already been adopted. (Note: For pictures of these bunnies and others who are looking for a home, visit the Colorado HRS web site.)

Andrew and Paisley – Andrew is a brown mini-rex who came back to us because of severe personal problems his “mom” was suffering. Born in 1998 and weighing exactly 5 pounds, Andrew is typical of the mini-rex: gentle and sociable. Paisley was a 2003 Easter bunny, found in a garage, from which she was delighted to be taken! White and grey, she weighs close to 6-1/2 pounds. In spite of the difference in their ages, these two are devoted to each other.

Baby Doe – Brought to us from Table Mountain Animal Center, this sweet little bunn had a slight head tilt, which we treated. Her head remains slightly tilted, but this sweet rabbit loves to be picked up and cuddled. She was probably born in 1998 and weights 4-3/4 pounds.

Bennigan and Beatrix – This big pair of rabbits (13 pounds and 10-1/2 pounds, respectively) came to us because of the war with Iraq. Both are wonderfully friendly, coming when called, to be loved on. Bennigan has the markings of a silver marten, but is bigger than rabbits of that breed. Beatrix is a New Zealand White. Born around 2001, this pair is “one in a million.”

Blueberry – This adorable, sociable little girl is just the size that Dutch rabbits are supposed to be, just over 4 pounds. She has been a house rabbit all her life, which began in 1999. Blueberry is yet another rabbit who thinks that people were created for the express purpose of showering affection on rabbits.

Brenda – This big-eared (the better to hear you with, my dear), tri-colored beauty is mildly shy. She seems uncertain of human intentions, but pleased when petted. She weighs almost 7 pounds. DOB: late 2002 (?)

Buster – This little fellow lost his family as a result of their being deployed to Iraq. Born around 1996, he has had the bad luck of being passed around a bit. At this stage in his life, he has cataracts in both eyes, and recently had two fatty tumors removed. Some time ago, he had an abscess removed from near his mouth, leaving a scar that makes him look like he always has a lop-sided grin. Buster is a loving little rabbit, who joyfully gives himself up to be held and cuddled. He weights about 4-3/4 pounds.

Calvin – For a Flemish giant, Calvin is fairly small, weighing in at only 14 pounds. Born around 2001, this big white rabbit likes people. In fact, he sometimes acts almost like a puppy. He hopes to find a home with LOTS of room, and a girl bunn whom he can adore.

Earl and Hoss – These two brothers found themselves homeless when their “dad” was deployed to Iraq. Earl is white with a grey “wash” and gray points and weighs 6 pounds. Hoss is grey with a white “wash,” and weighs 7-3/4 pounds. Both are gentle, quietly friendly fellows who need someone to repair the damage done to them by the war with Iraq.

Elmo – This cute brown and white mini-lop is very lovable. When people are around, he sits patiently at the front of his crate as if to ask, “Is anyone going to take a few minutes to love on me?” Born around 1999, and weighing about 5-1/2 pounds, Elmo will make someone very happy.

Frankie – Just over 6 pounds, this white and tan rabbit is mildly shy. DOB: early 2003 (?)

Frieda – Frieda, a friendly, white and black rabbit, can hardly wait to have a hus-bunn and home. A neat little package at just over 4 pounds, Frieda greets everyone at the front of her cage, begging them to stop and visit with her. She was probably born in 2001.

Isabelle – Taking time to "smell the roses," Isabelle shows what a cute little white and grey bunny she is. Slightly territorial and slightly shy, she longs for an unchanging environment she can learn to trust people. She weighs about 6-1/2 pounds and was born in 1996.

Jimmie Sue and Potter – Born in August ‘01 and September ‘01 respectively, this pair of rabbits has never become very friendly. They need someone adept at working with shy rabbits who is willing to accept them as they are and willing to give them the time they need to blossom. They weigh 5-3/4 pounds and 5 pounds, respectively.

Jonathan – This gentle grey and white Dutch weighs in at 4-1/2 pounds. Jonathan loves to be held or petted. In every way, he is “perfect.” DOB: probably late 2002.

Lara – Little 3-1/2 pound Lara is a dark brown, dwarf mix. She’s a little territorial, but perfect with her litter box habits. Of course, she is just too cute for words. DOB: 2001

Lettuce – This big, sweet, grey and white Dutch-mix bunny was very reluctantly given up by his people who faced serious personal problems. He had cancer in his right foreleg, requiring its removal, but he gets along beautifully without it. Lettuce loves to sit on a lap or lie in bed with a person. He has perfect litter habits. He was born in 1998.

Lucinda – Lucinda is a beautiful Satin, white with silver wash, who is “to die for.” Exceptionally people-oriented, she is willing to held for hours at a time, eagerly begs for attention when in her crate, and generally thinks people are the best thing ever created. Around 6-1/2 pounds, she was probably born in late 2002 or early 2003.

Nessy – This sweet little grey and white rabbit enjoys having people stop by to pet her. Probably born around 1999, Nessy weighs just over 4 pounds.

Pancho – Pancho is a big, friendly rabbit, just over 7 pounds, and probably born late 2002/early 2003. Mallory is about the same age, but closer to 9 pounds. She has "wacky" ears that make people laugh, and a delightful personality that calls people to come and pet her. All this happy couple needs now is a home.

Peggy and Polly – Dwarf mixes, these sisters are white and tan (Peggy), and white and brown (Polly). Polly is eager to meet people, but Peggy is a bit shy. Peggy prefers that Polly do the socializing with humans. DOB: early 2003

Rosie – What an absolutely gorgeous little black mini-rex Rosie is! Running a hand over her coat, one can think of nothing but the most luxurious of black velvet. And to top it off, she’s very friendly, begging for attention from people who pass her crate. Pet her, hold her, and do anything but ignore her! Probably born in 2001, Rosie weighs only a little over 4 pounds.

Star – This dark brown, 8-pound rabbit is described by her foster mom as “a lap bunn, big time!” Star would love a family with lots of laps, so she could always be assured of one being available for her. She was born in 1998.

Tashi – Shortly after coming to us, this sweet girl was found to have cancer. We helped her leave when the time came.

Speckles – Speckles seems to be trying for the “nine-lives” attributed to cats. Hiding in a pipe, he jumped out when construction workers lit a blowtorch. Thinking he was injured, they rushed him to a veterinarian, where he was pronounced totally unhurt. He is just over 4 pounds and was probably born in 2002 or early 2003.

Spuds – "No, my face is NOT crooked! It's just the markings that make it look that way!" Spuds is a pretty, white and reddish-tan rabbit, a little uncertain of people, but enjoying their attentions. He weighs just over 6 pounds. DOB: early 2003 (?)

Treasure – What is one person’s trash is another’s treasure. This grey and white Dutch mix rabbit was found in a cage in a dumpster. Why, is anyone’s guess. He’s the sweetest rabbit who has ever hopped across a carpet! Just over 6 pounds, we estimate his date of birth to be around 2001.

Washburn – Is Washburn beautiful, or what? This gentle rabbit greets people at the front of his cage, and invites them to love and pet him. DOB: 2002

Several “Additions” bunns have already been adopted. They include: Aaron, Blackie, Charity & Ricky, Goldie, Hot Shot & Pearl, Jennifer, Monty, Mango, Natasha & Elvira, Powder, Spotty, and Zach.
