Volume 5, Issue 3 - August 2005 And . . . The Winner of the Favorite Bunny Contest
Is . . .
Jeremiah is an eight-year-old rabbit who is an example of serious neglect. He was taken to a shelter to be humanely killed because his people didn’t want to pay for the euthanasia. From there he came to us, because it appeared that, if he was properly cared for, he didn’t need to be killed. When he arrived, he was covered with skin mites. Dried pus from untreated conjunctivitis covered his face, causing sores on his skin. The left side of his face is paralyzed, so food falls from his mouth on that side as he eats. There were points on his molars, making it difficult for him to eat, consequently, he was skin and bones. Severe arthritis in his back knees made it impossible for him to stand. He has had two seizures since he’s been with us. The mites have been destroyed, the conjunctivitis is being treated, and the dried pus has been gently soaked from his face. We were even able to flush his tear ducts! The points on his molars have been filed off, and one bad molar removed. Pain meds and “Arthriticare” are being given to help with the arthritis. We are delighted to report that Jeremiah is now able to stand and hop for 30 minutes as long as he doesn’t lose his balance and fall over. He is struggling to learn how to get back on his feet from his side. He tries so hard that one person who saw him thought he was having a seizure! Jeremiah has an incredibly strong will to survive, and this sweet little “old man” is striving valiantly to get back on his feet (both literally and figuratively). We will do everything we can to help him. Please keep him in your hearts and prayers. Editor's Note: Though Jeremiah is a special needs bunny, he is available for adoption and has a lot of love to offer.
