From the Mailbag: I Adore These Rabbits!
by Diane Jones

Owen & GazelleWe had the best morning here with Owen and Gazelle today. They were extra jumpy and zooming all over. After only 10 minutes, though, Owen decided that it was time for pellets. I always feed them their pellets when their playtime is over. If Owen decides it’s time for pellets, he'll pick up his food dish and toss it all over the place. I ignored him today, and he ran over and threw the dish at me. A demanding little goof!

Gazelle did one of the type of jumps that the girls and I call a blastoff (also a popcorn or an ejector seat). It looks as if a giant force propels the rabbit straight up, but she doesn’t twist about, so it looks as though the jump happens to her, rather than being something she is actively participating in. Gazelle popcorned straight up and over about three inches, landing in her hay box. It cracked me up.

I sneezed this morning, and they were dramatically, wildly alarmed. Thumps, honks, crazy zooming. Finally, when they were tired out, Gazelle actually did a back flop and stretched way out with Owen. I could see her considering it. She looked at me, looked at the ground, moved her head twice, and then gave a dainty little flip onto her back. As you can tell, I adore these rabbits!
