During the last three months, 50 bunnies
have arrived at the shelter.
Because there are so many new bunnies, we haven’t
been able to photograph them.
Eventually, you will be able to see all of them on the Colorado
HRS web site with more complete descriptions.
Nugget and Marci
Our beautiful little gold and white Nugget (4-1/2
lbs., DOB: 4/01) and his lovely white partner, Marci (2 oz bigger,
DOB: early ’01)
were confiscated from their adopter when it was learned that
they were being housed outside in a pen where foxes had previously
killed
another
rabbit. Actually, the person brought them back, but we would
have removed them from that situation anyway. They are a gentle, friendly
pair.
Nik Nak and Paddywack
These brothers were born in July, 2004. They came
to us thin, with sparse, rough fur, and bitten up skin, but now they
are healthy and ready for
a home. Each weighs around 5 lbs.
Cooper and Claire
This is a beautiful and friendly pair, greatly
loved by their adopters. When their dogs became aggressive toward these
sweet
bunns, they were
returned for their own safety. Cooper is a pumpkin and white mix,
born late ’03. Claire is a mini-rex mix, white with grey and pumpkin
spots, perhaps born in ’01. They weigh between 5 and 6 lbs.
They are a lovely pair for some lucky family.
Marigold
This white rabbit arrived on our doorstep covered
with urine stains, indicating that a male had loved her dearly
and wanted no other rabbit
to consider trying to steal her. How she became a stray, we don’t
know, but a week after arrival, she gave birth to six babies. She’s
a big girl at 9-1/4 lbs. DOB: 2003
Alfred,
Bernard, Chester, Darby, Becky, and Amanda
These are Marigold’s babies, born on
May 11, 2005. Five of them are white, with various amounts of black
on them. Alfred, however, is
the standout, having brown markings instead of black.
May
This pretty little white and light brown bunny was
found on a busy street and taken to the nearest veterinarian, and hence
to us. A week later,
she produced a litter of six lovely babies. Born in 2003, and weighing
under 5 lbs., May is a sweet bunny looking for a home and a hus-bunn.
Monte,
Norman, Ruthy, Libby, Orlando, and Paige
These are May’s babies, born on May 11, 2005. Monty and Norman
are brown and white; Ruthy and Libby are solid brown; Orlando and Paige
are brown with a bit of grey trim. All six of them have decided to be
lops, in spite of the fact that mother May isn’t!
Raymond
Raymond was left at Homestead Animal Hospital,
without anyone agreeing to take him! Born in 2000, he is a white
and black rabbit weighing
just under 6 lbs., and acts like he’s only a year old. He
likes people, and would really like to go home with a girl-bunn.
Jackson
Jackson was left at Homestead at the same time
as Raymond. The two weren’t
cage mates, so each is waiting for a “wife” and a home. Just
over 6 lbs., Jackson was born in 2004. He’s a “steel” chinchilla
color—most striking and unusual. Jackson also likes people.
Orville
Now that we’ve made a big deal about Jackson’s coloring,
and how striking and unusual it is, Orville has the same coloring. Orville
had a close call—he was sent to PetCo for adoption, and bit a cage
cleaner (who probably didn’t know how to approach a rabbit),
so he was going to be euthanized. We interceded and have found that
he is
a perfectly nice rabbit. Born in 2004, Orville weighs almost 7-1/2
lbs.
Wilbur
This little (5 lb), black mix is a real sweetheart!
Wilbur enjoys people, is cute as can be, and can hardly wait until
he has a wife and home
of his own before he grows another day older. He was born in 2001.
Jennylee
This sweet 8-1/2 lb. Californian, born in 2002,
wants SO badly to be friendly! She comes to the front of her crate,
and if nothing frightens
her, puts her head down and lets herself be stroked, full body, for
as long as anyone will stay. An unexpected move will send her racing
to hide in her litter box, where she peeks worriedly over the edge
to see what terrible danger threatened. But such episodes don’t
stop her—the next time, she tries all over again. Jennylee is
such a dear bunny—surely someone has a boy bunn who would like
to give her more confidence!
Ty and Honey
Honey is a sweet, honey-brown-with-black-flecks mini-lop
born in June, 2002, weighing just over 5 lbs. Ty is an especially friendly
boy-bunn,
black and beautiful, weighing 5-3/4 lbs. These two have been house
rabbits before and know the rules. They are perfect for someone who
loves lops.
Clover and Sage
Born in April, ’05, these two adorable
mini-lop mix babies were found as strays. Clover was excruciatingly
thin, but has since gained
weight and is in excellent health. Clover is white and grey, Sage,
grey and white. Sage eagerly seeks out human contact, whereas
Clover waits
for it.
Binks
Binks came to us with the name “Jinx,” and
was said to be a male, too wild to adopt. She turned out to be
a girl-bunn with an absolutely
delightful, quiet personality! Black and white and gentle all over,
Binks is a real catch for some boy-bunn around her age. She was
born in 2002,
and weighs 7-1/4 lbs.
Koda
Under 3-lbs., this chocolate colored, dwarf
mix bunn was purchased for children who were too young for a
rabbit. Apparently,
he was very well
behaved, as he had free run of the house during the day. He is friendly
with adults, children, cats, and dogs—in other words, he’s
one friendly little dude! DOB: 2004
Bonnie and Connie
Bonnie and Connie came to us as Bunny and
Clyde. Clyde turned out to
be a girl, so we changed their names. These two are full-sized, gorgeous
rexes. Bonnie is black and white; Connie, grey and white. Each weighs
approximately 9-3/4 lbs. DOB: June, ’04.
These lovely ladies were headed for the dining table until rescued
by a woman who couldn’t keep them because she was on her way
to Africa.
Kelli
Kelli is a gentle little lady with a honey-and-black “tweed” coat.
Born in 2000, and weighing 6-1/4 lbs., she is waiting for her Prince
Charming to carry her away to a home and family where she is sure to
be adored.
Nibs
This little grey stray is now safely at home
in our shelter, but is still a bit shy. Who wouldn’t be after
being a stray, then kept in a home until we could take her, and suddenly
finding herself with a
warren of rabbits! Current weight is 4-3/4 lbs., but we expect
her to drop some of her plumpness over the next month or two.
Itsy (On hold)
This dwarf hotot is a little lover. She is wonderfully
friendly, and
loves to give kisses. DOB: 2004
We also have several new Special Needs bunnies:
Sugar and Timmy
Yoda and Leia
Jeremiah
Bunnies who arrived this quarter but have already

- Misha
