Ways You Can Help Colorado HRS

There are many ways you can help the bunnies. The list of possibilities is varied and includes: encouraging service groups to fund raise on behalf of Colorado HRS, donating bath towels, renewing your membership, recycling, shopping online, saving juice cans, donating play pens, setting up donation jars, referring home buyers/sellers , buying/selling a home, and/or matching donations.

1) Encourage Service Groups to Organize Fundraising Events

If you know of a church group or other service-minded organization that is looking for service hours, suggest that they organize a fundraising event or donation drive on behalf of Colorado HRS. Students and scout troops can use their service hours to make toys for the bunnies. For more information, please contact Kay Fritzsche at kay@coloradohrs.com or 303-770-5212.

2) Renew Your National Membership

When it's time to renew your membership with National HRS, please send your check for $18.00 to us at the Colorado House Rabbit Society. When you renew in this manner, the Colorado HRS can keep $3.00 of the membership fee. We will forward the remaining $15.00 to National. Either way, the membership charge to you is $18.00. Make your check payable to Colorado HRS and mail it to P.O. Box 238, Broomfield, CO 80038-0238.

3) Recycle Toner Cartridges and Cell Phones

Please donate your used printer cartridges, drum cartridges and old cell phones to Colorado HRS. These can be sold for recycling. You may leave them with any of the volunteers at the supply pick-up points or bring them to the shelter in Broomfield. There's a box in the supply pick-up room labeled, “Recycle Cartridges Here.” This is another great way for you to help the bunnies at no cost to you. Spread the word to your employer, friends and family. If your company would like a specially marked box to collect their cartridges, please contact Kay at kay@coloradohrs.com. We typically receive $50 per month from this recycling program.

5) Save Juice Cans

Save your small, hard (not aluminum) juice cans. (Cranberry and grapefruit juices usually come in them.) These are used to make bunny toys. Bring the clean cans to the shelter or drop them off at one of the supply pick up points.

6) Setup and/or Manage a Donation Jar Program

We are currently searching for someone who would like to administer a program in which donation jars are placed in various retail establishments. If you work somewhere that we can place a donation jar, please contact Debby Schmidt at 970-690-0292 or debbysch@quixnet.net.

7) Match Donations

Contact your employer about matching funds for the donations that you give.

8) Donate Play Pens

The Colorado HRS is in need of baby playpens. The type we are seeking are about four feet square with mesh sides and a plastic mat covering the bottom. If you have one or see one at a garage sale, PLEASE remember us. The pens are exceptionally useful when we must nurse a bunny who is tumbling with severe head tilt. The soft sides keep him contained and prevent him from injuring himself.

9) Donate Bath Towels

We desperately need bath towels to line the foster bunny condos. If you have some bath towels to donate, please leave them in the supply alcove in Broomfield (12601 Lowell--which is North of 120th, between Federal and Sheridan) or with one of the supply pick up people.

10) Refer Potential Home Buyers/Sellers

Colorado HRS member, Kerry Endsley is offering a great donation opportunity to help us build some much needed runs for the foster bunnies. For each closed, referred transaction, Kerry will purchase an aluminum run for the Colorado HRS. These pens cost about $1,100 each.

If you know someone who is buying or selling a home, refer them to Kerry. He can be reached at 303-526-7500 (office), 303-215-5363 (direct), 303-570-0267 (cell phone), or 303-670-0025 (fax). Kerry's mailing address is Coldwell Banker, 25568 Genesee Trail Road, Golden, CO 80401.
