Meet Debby Schmidt: Our Volunteer of the Quarter

Debby SchmidtIf I didn't live so far away, I would be willing to come once a month to help." This is a comment we hear quite frequently. Of course, to be fair, these are usually people with lots of family commitments, too.

Not many people would drive once a week from Greeley and spend an entire day grooming shelter rabbits, but bless her heart, Debby Schmidt does it! Without her, our shelter rabbits’ nails would get too long and the angoras would be a matted mess. Plus, who knows how many small problems Debby catches before they turn into big problems.

Of course, Debby doesn't stop with helping keep the bunnies looking and feeling good. Debby is always willing to help staff event booths, prepare treats and toys for the bunnies, and make phone calls. You name it. Debby does it.

  • Need some signs for the Spring Fling or the Bunny Boutique? Debby comes up with delightful ones! (By the way, Debby is the one who created the "bunny money" for this year's Spring Fling.)
  • Need a fosterer in a hurry? Debby seems always to be able to find one more niche to tuck a bunny in. And, the foster bunns at her house don’t just sit in a crate, either. They get to romp in the yard under Debby’s careful supervision.
  • Debby takes some of the more needy rabbits as permanent fosters, and she creates clever devices to help them maneuver.
  • Debby even coordinates getting supplies to our Greeley members.

Perhaps what we appreciate most about Debby is that she does what she's says she's going to do. If Debby says she will do something, it will not only get done. It will get done ahead of schedule.

Debby, we appreciate you more than we can say! You are one of the volunteers upon whom our work heavily depends. Many thanks from all the shelter rabbits and all your fellow volunteers.

Because there are so many highly deserving volunteers to be acknowledged, we plan to recognize one volunteer every quarter.
