We get a call from the Pueblo Animal League. “Please, can you take these three rabbits?” they implore. We have space, but no time for a trip to Pueblo, or even to meet someone halfway. Hey, Katie, can you . . . ? “Sure,” she says. We need vegetables to feed the foster bunnies today. “Katie, can you . . . ?” “Sure,” she responds. “Katie, can you . . . ? Sure!” has become a mantra around here. I sometimes wonder if Katie has any limits to what she is willing to do. I doubt it. But Katie isn’t there just for the odd things that come up. She also takes on big, specific responsibilities. She maintains the inventory in The Bunny Burrow shop. She takes all of our rabbits for their spays and neuters. She gets the foster rabbit pictures and the memorials onto the website. She acts as the interface between feeding teams to be sure we have vegetables for the rabbits every day, getting them herself when necessary. Katie, you’re the oil that keeps our engine running! I’m afraid that, without you, everything around here would come to a screeching halt. All of us, and all of the rabbits past and present, are very grateful to you for your unselfish, competent service.
