Volume 3, Issue 2 - May 2003 Let
Me Tell You About Our New Shelter.
It's FABULOUS! While strolling around the property of our new shelter, I marvel at what we have: two large rooms for our rabbits; a store; an office; a plot for a vegetable garden big enough to feed all of our bunnies; runs where rabbits will be able to exercise; fields where our events can be held, and where an indoor/outdoor sanctuary may some day be built. The possibilities seem endless. And then I think about everything that needs to be done! First and foremost, we have to get good ventilation and cooling into the rabbit rooms for the summer. As we do this, we hope to bring in more natural light. In order to keep heating and cooling costs down, the rooms must be insulated for both summer and winter. As time allows, the runs across from the bunny building must be made predator-proof. Fortunately, we have several volunteers able to handle construction: George Blakely, Kent Gleasure, Phillip Erbaugh, Jamie Wadsworth, and Becki Hahn are among these volunteers. Our gardeners are already preparing the soil and are deciding what vegetables to plant. A supply of fresh veggies for our foster bunnies will be the result of hard work by Steven and Jamee Dahl, Mary Vigil, Nadine Carlotto, and Marianne Monagle. If moles can have holes, then bunnies can have burrows! We will call the gift shop “The Bunny Burrow,” (no relation to the Mole Hole). We are still seeking volunteers to staff the shop. If you are interested please contact me. Until we have enough volunteers, please continue to place your orders via email several days before you plan to pick them up. The Spring Fling, on June 21st, will give us a day to play, enjoy each other and each other’s rabbits. Much of our volunteer time will be diverted into making this a day to remember. With all the space we have, this is going to be a major celebration, with booths, food, bunny-sitting services, and more! (see “Spring Fling” on the first page of this newsletter) And
so, as we stand at the beginning
of the first year in our new
shelter, we rejoice at the good
fortune that has come to our
rabbits, and look with anticipation
at the fun and hard work that
lies ahead. |
