About six feet of snow covered our property during the March Blizzard! Except for some severe cases of Cabin Fever, everyone seemed to manage just fine. We did do a lot of snow shoveling, so that we could get out of the house and to the barns to feed our furry and feathered family. Luckily, we were well stocked with food and other provisions, as we were completely snowed in for 10 days. The roof collapsed on the trailer where we store the hay, but fortunately no damage was done to anyone's living quarters. We did get some photos taken of the snow. We’ll enjoy looking at the photos this summer while we're talking about the heat.

Sadly, we lost another bunn during the winter months. Pipkin, one of our special needs bunns, died during the early morning hours of February 28th. The poor little guy had suffered through a very severe nasal infection and had endured many eye flushings and other treatments. He seemed to be doing a bit better when he unexpectedly passed on. We, along with his companion Madison, miss him more than we can express. Madison, who has head tilt, is our other special needs bunn. He and Pipkin had closely bonded as they comforted each other through their individual problems. Fortunately for Madison, Kaplan arrived to comfort him. Kaplan, a HRS Special Needs bunny, had been rejected by his bud Lonnie and needed a new companion and someone to care for him. We paired Kaplan with Madison and they have gotten along splendidly ever since. Kaplan joined us just before the big snow, so we had some time to get to know this wonderful little guy. Interestingly enough, Kaplan's head tilt began to improve after he arrived, but then just as quickly returned, this time with his head tilting in the other direction. We are still trying to figure out what is going on as no one we've spoken with has ever seen head tilt go from one side to the other. We are happy that he and Madison are getting along so well. We continue to medically treat him in the hopes that his head tilt will clear up once again.

We have arranged for a contractor to finish our bobcat prevention construction. Unfortunately, the snow has prevented him from getting this job finished. We hope that by June the bunns will once again be able to live safely and securely in both their indoor and outdoor enclosures.

Finally, we'd like to thank Kim and TJ Schulte for all of their support and help with Madison and Pipkin. Kim and TJ delivered Madison and Kaplan to us after their bonding at the HRS shelter and bunny-baby-sat while we went on a short vacation. We don't know what we'd do without all their help.
